“I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in truth.”

– 3 John 4

Good morning everyone! Thank you to everyone who served this past week! Thank you for being the hands and heart of Christ to our children! Hope that you all had a chance to enjoy the weather this weekend. I have been pretty sick since Friday morning, and this morning is the first morning that I am starting to feel much better. When I plan too much, do too much, and do not take care of my body – God tends to slow me down – that is exactly what He did this weekend :). So I am not invincible?! Who would have thought :)! Between masters classes coming to an end, vbs season starting up, the retreat, and trying to fit training into my schedule – it was too much. This morning I read a devotion, and I want to share part of it with you:

“One day as I was crying out to God in the shower (my prayer closet), He whispered to my heart that I was stressed and dissatisfied because I was looking for the answers within the systems I had in place in my life. I was playing the ‘if only’ game. You know the one: if only I had more space in my house, I could be more organized. If only I had more time, I could get more done. If only I had older kids, younger kids, fewer kids, no kids, a kid… Whatever you ‘if only game’ sounds like, I am sure you can admit to having played it before. That day I was lamenting the failure of my methods by looking for a way out – instead of looking for God’s face in the midst of my crazy life.”

Wow – that hit me right in the heart. In the midst of our crazy lives, do we look for God’s face? Do we trust that God is in control and that above all He is working things out for our good? So many times I play the “if only game”, so many times I am not satisfied with what I have – I want more, or what some else has. Shame on me – God has me in this place for a purpose, am I seeking His face in the midst of it all? Does that strike your heart at all? When your life seems busy, crazy, out of control, do you seek His face above all else and trust that He will get you through – a stronger, healthier person more dependent on Him? Speak this verse outloud until it is written on your heart, and take some time to really think about what it means to trust His ways and not our own:

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight.”

– Proverbs 3:5-6
